The comments attached to the two charts are very succinct, yet insightful.

The article states students want to make a difference, but the regrets seem to be mostly tied to making less money.

With items overlapping on the two lists, it appears that only 18 “majors” were included - several are generalized grouping of several majors.

The comments are interesting, but keep in mind they only represent those that regretted their major. I don’t think CS has limited job opportunities as a whole - just among those with regret. There is certainly a correlation/causation issue there. I also found little requirement for advanced degrees in my engineering career.

Pure sciences being at the top may surprise some who consider “STEM” to be a homogeneous grouping. And Education being near the top is sad but accurate.

I just noticed, based on a discussion elsewhere, that this was based on a survey of users of Ziprecruiter - I.e. people looking for jobs.

That’s far from a representative sample, and it’s unsurprising that job prospects is the biggest concern of people looking for jobs.
