Do I pick regents or honors?

samxshimsamxshim Registered User Posts: 2 New Member
I am currently a senior in high school applying to colleges. I have to add in my classes I took and what level they are. I live in New York so it is mandatory to take regents and any regents classes. In my freshman year, I took a geometry "honors" class. Although it was a honors class, it was just basically freshman taking geometry since we did other classes in middle school. Should I say the level is honors or regents? I can't pick both

Pick "honors" if it was a class designated as such. This means that credit from this class counts towards your math regents requirement, but in addition was more rigorous than the standard regents class. In some schools the grade from the honors classes will also receive a greater weight for calculating your weighted GPA. In any case, colleges that you apply to will receive your transcripts directly from your school and be using their own judgement with regards to the level of your coursework. Good luck with your applications.

This is honors because it was accelerated.

Your description should match what is on your HS transcript.

It's honors. Honors assumes that it is regents, at least for those classes in which you take the regents. In all of my kids' honors classes, they had to take the regents if it was offered for the subject.

@Happy1 - the transcript would probably say something like Regents Geometry Honors or Honors Geometry, which in NY would assume people would know the regents is involved.

The OP's question was if he/she should note that the class was honors and I stand by my comment that it is good to follow the designation on the transcript. I expect it is an honors class lf the OP was taking an accelerated math path.
