Robotics and Medicine

Hi! I want to major in pre-medicine or biology in undergraduate school. Currently, I am a freshman on the robotics team and plan on doing it all four years. There are several subdivisions including CAD (computer animated design), programming (coding for the robot to move), mechanical (building the robots, similar to mechanical engineering), and electrical (the wires and pistons of the robot). Currently, I am on the programming part and was wondering if this would help me. I am very dedicated to the team and wanted to know what subdivision would benefit me most since I want to become a doctor rather than an engineer or computer scientist. Thank you in advance!

Any of those subdivisions would be useful for an aspiring doctor. Medicine and medical research incorporate similar skills.

You can major in anything you want, med schools do not care. Premed is not a major. It involves completing 8/9 courses (eg one year bio, two years of chem, one year of physics, etc). You can major in anything you want so long as you complete premed reqs. Most premeds major in bio, perhaps out of interest, but also because you will satisfy most premed and all major reqs at same time. Major in what interests you as if you like material you’re more likely to do well GPA wise which is something med schools care, in part, a great deal about. If anything considering majoring in something that can serve as a Plan B should you change your mind about med school. Good luck.
