Williams College or Vanderbilt University for CS/Econ?

sunlightsheensunlightsheen Registered User Posts: 4 New Member
I'm committed to Williams but just found out I was accepted off of Vanderbilt's waitlist. How do the two schools' CS and Econ programs compare? Is one objectively better than the other? Any input is appreciated because I'm really conflicted right now. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations! Both schools are great. Cannot speak to CS, but Williams has a very well regarded Econ dept. that places grads in very good positions

I’d consider posting this in the College Search and Selection Forum. I think I replied to your post on Reddit but I’ll do so again for the benefit of anyone reading this. I don’t know if one school is objectively better, but Williams is highly renowned for economics (and math) and if you’re aiming for Wall Street, it’ll get you there (it’s a traditional Wall Street target, more so than Vandy). CS has become incredibly popular there recently, but I can’t speak to how it compares with Vandy’s department.

Both are fantastic universities and both will have solid departments for computer science and economics (both very common majors, so you would be fine anywhere).

Pick which one you would pick if you were going in unsure of a major.

@sunlightsheen : Congratulations ! Based on your 2 posts on CC it appears that you were admitted to Williams College on May 2 from the waitlist & the next day received a waitlist offer from Vanderbilt. (Might be a good time to buy a lottery ticket.)

Both schools are great. Before receiving an offer from Williams' waitlist, where were you intending to go to college ?

Between Williams & Vanderbilt, it should be based on personal preference as the campus cultures differ substantially. Vanderbilt social life revolves around Greek life & SEC sports. Williams College is quite different with a much less intense, but very active, sports scene.

Two very different schools. You've got to give us more to go on.

@Publisher - Thank you! I was committed to Rutgers Honors College before being admitted to Williams and Vanderbilt. Although I'm very thankful for Vanderbilt's offer, I think I'm going to stay committed to Williams! I'm really intrigued by the liberal arts experience and definitely want to explore the nature around campus.
