For those who applied to food science major, what were your interests / volunteer works, and how did you realize that food science was your top choice?

My S knows a lot of food science majors at his school. Many grew up on farms, some worked at nurseries and got interested in food-baring plants, some were very interested in ways food can help the growing world population and volunteered at food drives, and other ecology events. One friend is vegan and interested in expanding the variety of plant based foods. The food science professor was the first ag teacher we met. She came out of her cooking class to show us the ice cream making area. She was so passionate about what she did! S is animal science.
