So is it generally that the letter to your admissions counselor plays a bigger part for UChicago than most other elite schools?

Probably not but no way to know for sure, @KalaniAnne

My D was waitlisted a UChicago 2 years ago. As exciting as it might be to think about the chance of getting off the waitlist, I recommend that you look at the waitlist as a nice "no". Congratulate yourself that you got waitlisted, which is no small accomplishment, and make plans to go elsewhere. If by a miracle you do get off the waitlist, then awesome - you won the lottery.

I have a relative who was waitlisted at UChicago last year. A prompt phone call from their prep school guidance counselor got them in. Have your GC call. Also email a lette tor UChicago admissions promising to attend if admitted.

UChicago seems to really suggest that you not have someone call or write on your behalf. I don't know if that usually works out well, although I can't be completely sure.

Would a public school guidance counselor work as well?

@KalaniAnne some schools are more open to extra recommendations than others. You can have your public school counselor call on your behalf, but I'm not sure if UChicago wants anybody to send extra recommendations. According to this official tumblr post, it looks like they're less open to it. I don't think I'm asking for extra recommendations because I don't want to risk annoying them

Does anyone know the statistics regarding how many people were waitlisted?

In last year's waitlist thread, it looks like some people got their acceptances around this time (April 5th, 6th, 7th)
Has anyone been contacted by UChicago about getting in from the waitlist yet?

They also were emailed the day of the week decisions came out (last year was a Wednesday). So if you're contacted, it will probably be on Friday.
