My D is looking at The Ohio State University and University of Tennessee. Does anyone have experience in comparing these two universities?

@boseownr Both are pretty good schools. Are you referring to the flagship UTK or the other locations as well? In general, OSU is better known than UTK. OSU is a tad bit lower than the top publics (Michigan and Berkeley) imho. If you are oos for both, choose OSU.

OSU has 66,000 students whereas UTK has around half of that. In general, OSU gives pretty good merit to OOS applicants, I'm not sure for UTK. It's known for it's incredible music and science programs.

If you are IS for UTK, it's a good deal. It has a strong engineering program comparable to Clemson or Alabama. I think OSU's engineering is much better, and better funded as well. Also, some majors at UTK are pretty good, like nuclear engineering (which isn't offered at OSU). I believe it's business programs are pretty decent as well.

In general, if your D gets a full ride to UTK, I wouldn't pay OSU oos tuition instead. If she received good merit from OSU then probably. Some schools similar to OSU are Dayton, Miami (OH), Rutgers, Penn State and Syracuse.
