AP Exam Retake?

I checked my scores and scored a 3 on Statistics despite being the top student in the class. I am a rising senior, and my Statistics teacher is writing one of my recommendations. I truly do not believe that that score is an accurate representation of my ability and knowledge regarding AP Statistics. I don't intend to apply for credit, and my ED school requires official reporting of scores.

If I am applying to a major that deals with statistics, would this score hurt me? If I try and take the exam next year as a senior would this benefit me in any way?
