Harvey Scholars Program - Class of 2019

So I got invited to apply to this program, but I'm surprised because I wasn't offered the max. merit scholarship (got 12k not 14k). Does anyone know how many people get invited to apply and how competitive it is? Also has anyone else been invited to apply?

I got invited to apply too, but it doesn't mention what amount I'm offered. Where'd you find it?

@snowboardchick97‌ I found out about my merit aid in a letter in the mail about a week ago, not in the e-mail invitation. What are your stats??

@saismom @snowboardchick97‌ wow! Great profiles! This scholarship is definitely going to be very, very competitive. Do either of you know how many people got selected to apply?

I'm not all that sure either, but my friend at school (with much better stats than mine) also got invited. I'll ask around, since I know lots of kids who applied and most got accepted :)

@saismom off topic, but I'm in AP AB Calc and AP Chem right now. Do you know how your daughter prepared for the AP exams? I have no good sources of information except the absolutely brilliant students at school and I can't relate to them in any way (my brain doesn't just soak up information) -_- thank you!

Sure! I can ask her when she gets home today and I will pm you. I know she did a lot of reviews with the chem class. Last year was the first year for the new AP chem format and when they finally released the practice test and the teacher gave it to the class, they were shell-shocked. The teacher took that as a wake up call and really started to teach in the last 3 weeks before the exam. They went over the actual standards that were outlined in the AP course description. Does your teacher have a good passing rate from last year? Your teacher should have access to that practice exam so they should already be aware of the changes. I will tell you that the exam was so hard last year that the AP test scorers recommended that the threshhold for a score of "5" be lowered since so many kids did not finish the exam. The FRQ section had multiple sections per question. It was brutal!

Back on topic, my email marked all the emails regarding the scholarship as spam (Why Google why...) so I didn't find out until two days ago that I was eligible--whoops. I managed to cobble something together thanks to my AP Lit teacher (Thank you God for teachers that really care about their students). I didn't really have any good adversity stories so I just talked about my experiences with bullying in grade school and my efforts to stop it happening to other people in high school. My resume was mostly focused on actions I did in my clubs, work, and volunteering rather than a laundry list of things. I don't think we can afford to be "good-enough," we need to stand out as potential candidates. As for stats, I can't find any statistics on how many are selected to apply or how many are selected as semifinalists, but I'm sure everyone invited is fairly competitive.

I'm just lucky I was given the opportunity to apply though, no matter how late I was to complete it. The Harveys are extremely generous with the scholarship, considering how not only is it full-ride but also research stipend and travel fares for study abroad.

Best of luck everyone! Let's hope we at least make it on the semi-finalist list in a couple weeks.

Is the application due today at 12 am (as in Saturday night) or tomorrow at 12 am?

Quick question to anyone who sees this, what is the CWID that I am supposed to put at the top of my application? If no one answer, I am putting the last 5 digits of my Student Pin. I hope this is okay!

My son was invited to apply last spring. There were about 675 of the 800+ freshmen class invited. From there, 34 were semi-finalists (son was one) and then 12 finalists. It is SUPER competitive, not only with the essay but also the semi-final interview.

We're not sure why our son wasn't selected but he was 15 at the time of interview (a 16 y.o. junior now) and our income is "high". Not sure if they decided on kids who otherwise couldn't attend w/o out.

It's NOT a "full ride". It's tuition and books - no housing (which is ~$12k/year). It also includes international study.

I would suggest watching the YouTube videos about the program.

No, and I don't see any news on their Twitter, Blog, or Facebook page...I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I really want to make semifinals...

I thought I remembered someone from a previous year at least getting an email confirming a rejection. I would at least like to know for sure I didn't make semi's. It's getting late too, so if we don't hear soon, we probably won't hear at all today. Anyone hear of any delays in messaging applicants?
