Anyone else waiting for a decision? Insights on delay?

Child applied early November. Still no decision. When called in December, advised decision sometime in Jan. On followup inquiry, advised sometime in Feb. Thoughts?

All I can think of is that they waited for semester grades but usually they tell you this...

Yes, that is our assumption as well since Mines is rolling, but absence of explanation is causing the confusion. When child called to make inquiry as to the status of review, was merely advised of prospective decision "date" without explanation and child didn't think appropriate to inquire.

We were told that we would hear by the end of this month. Realistically that would be tomorrow. They haven't asked for further grades.

I applied at the end of October and didn't hear anything from them until December when they explained that I needed to send in a transcript with grades from my first semester as a senior.

I sent an email asking about the status of my application and coincidentally, a letter had already been on its way explaining the above.

Called a few weeks ago and they said that I would hear back by the 31st.

Son applied in early October and was notified of acceptance the end of October. First via email and then official packet arrived in the mail approximately two weeks later. Was notified of merit aid award the end of December via snail mail.

I'm not sure what would be causing the delay in decision. Perhaps rolling admissions has something to do with it??

That sounds interesting. It's possible that a lot of people applying to Mines could have done it throughout October or November causing the delay.

I just applied as a transfer student about two weeks ago and just received my acceptance email a couple of days ago.

Accepted Students day is in 2 weeks though? Anyone know what is going on?

@Montmom, Yes and that fact makes the absence of a decision particularly unfortunate/ disquieting for us b/c we are from the east and are coming out for our annual ski trip the same week as the accepted student day . If he was accepted, we would want to include that as part of our trip, but we also don't want to go and visit if he hasn't or won't be accepted.

We are also on the east coast. My D called yesterday and admissions said that decisions were mailed on Jan 23 (over 2 weeks ago) but we haven't received anything at all

Really, the assumption for us is that it is off the table. Maybe that is their plan. No way would we have not heard if decisions were mailed 2 weeks ago. What an odd thing to even say.

D received an email of admission yesterday with a note that the admission packet would arrive in 2 weeks by mail- unfortunately - admitted students day is next saturday!

I e-mailed in early January and was told my son would receive a decision by the end of January. E-mailed again early February with no response. E-mailed again this week and got a reply stating that they were swamped with applications and he should hear in the next few weeks. Makes you wonder about their administration, doesn't it?

I am glad to know my DS isn't alone in the waiting. He applied early Dec and still hasn't heard. A call to the admissions office was met with a rep who laughed (nervously not jubilantly) when she told us DS's application had "No Decision".

Given reply of @‌ scoutermom and @ twosue, seems pointless for my child to call again and inquire of status. We all seem to be experiencing same outcome. Each month called (Dec, Jan, & Feb) was told same thing: application (which was complete mid nov) received & reviewed, but no decision and told to call back in "a few weeks." So Feb came and went again with no response so I'm sure phone call on March 2 would again elicit a directive of call back in few weeks (which of course will bring to April1, the standard Notification deadline of all universities!). So much for "rolling admissions." Real regret is not knowing this was a possible outcome ( limbo). Never saw anything like this described on various sites for prior years. Everything we had seen described a 30 day turn around time from completed app submitted by Nov. Child elected not to select ED 1 at another school thinking would have a decision from Mines (number 1 choice) in time for the ED II date at the school that had heavily courted . When didn't hear from Mines, but Jan 1, converted app at the other school to ED II, but was advised waitlisted. Our thought is, hesitancy in electing EDI in the face of a courtship negatively impacted. So Mines protracted approach was not only unexpected, but unfortunate. I share so prospective future applicants consider that "rolling" may not be "rolling" when deciding on their application "strategy."

I think there must be some administrative issues.

If these stats are up to date I am pretty baffled by this schools methodology, admission yield numbers are worth noting.. My kids stats are higher than their 75th % percentile and we have heard nothing. This is why I wonder about the admin issues.

My daughter applied by the November 15 deadline with the "golden admission application," and we assumed she would receive a decision within 30 days. She thought had a good chance to be admittted and was very interested in attending. However, after not hearing back for months, she became more interested in a few other schools. She finally received her acceptance to CSM in late February. Not sure why there was such a delay!
