What would be on the right track for acceptance? Just a quick overview, year by year, of what a prospective should be doing - or already done?

    Involve yourself in activities you're interested in, challenge yourself. But make sure you don't die trying too hard.

    the most important thing is to take the most rigorous classes (or nearly all of them) that are available to you and to do well in them. outside of class, figure out what interests you and pursue that interest with vigor. in your free time, read everything you can get your hands on.
