Columbia revoking ED admission...?!

signaturesignature Registered User Posts: 64 Junior Member
edited April 2012 in Columbia University
Hi everyone

I got in ED but senoritis got the best out of me

and i'm now getting all Bs(B+s,Bs) with one C minus.

I am kind of freaking out cause Columbia is the only school I applied to ...

I know I have only myself to blame.. sigh

Also, how important are IB scores that are sent to colleges beginning July?

thanks in advance.

That's a significant drop in your grades, but not a total disaster. You may want to consider studying a little bit harder for your IBs - they probably won't revoke your admission, but I was told that you really shouldn't fail any IB exams, and that you MAY NOT fail your IB diploma. So make sure to study for your higher level exams and finish CAS!
A downward trend looks bad, so if you could finish on a high notes with your exams, I think that would help.

thanks for your answer. do you know when Columbia lets us know whether or not we are collegeless? gaw... are my grades bad enough to get my acceptance revoked?! :/

no they wont rescind. they'll give you a warning to scare you - maybe. but no - 0% chance you get revoked, relax. if they contact you just say sorry you'll try harder

phew thanks that was pretty reassuring. my parents and teachers are really worried/ convinced that there is a possibility of my acceptance getting revoked because of these grades.........

Have you sent them your 3rd quarter grades yet? (not sure if they require that or just mid-year + final transcript) Basically, if you haven't received a nastygram in the mail at this point, you probably won't get one. And even if you do, you can probably explain away Bs and a C-... you're far from being a case of "the guy they need to make an example of".

Here's a helpful Quora post on the subject.

Nope I think Columbia only requires mid- year (which had reasonable grades) and final transcript (with the grades I have right now :[ ). Thanks for the post ! Inspiring, but I still hope I don't become the unlucky one.
    Any other input ?

To get rescinded you have to drop off by 1.5+ UW GPA points. ex: 3.95 -> 2.45. Although I know people who have gone from 3.8 UW GPA to 2.7 UW GPA with nothing happening. Also the worst I have personally heard was the student was placed on academic probation the first semester (needed to make over a 3.0).

@AvidStudent :0 do you happen to know what gpa that person (who was on academic probation) got to get into that?

also, were the people you are talking about (with nothing happening to them despite their significant drop in grades) from "highly selective colleges"? (because i heard "less selective" colleges tend to be more lenient towards these things)

Can you get your gpa above a 3.2? You still have weeks of school left.

we don't have class anymore because of IB exams... sigh..so my grades now are ..done.

Oh... Well I guess just hope for the best. Do well on your IB exams and you should be fine.

What truazn said. Unless you fail something, there's no chance your acceptance will be rescinded. Even if you fail something, you'll probably just get a warning.

sweet. I just heard about a story about a kid getting his acceptance rescinded cause his IB grades were 5 points lower than his predicted... does this make any sense anyone..?

Academic probation from what I've heard are easy-ish classes to see if you can handle the coursework... I don't know if this is true or what the real case is... if anyone knows the info please comment!

@signature I really hope that isn't true because my IB mock exam results were 5 points lower than my predicted... :S
Hopefully I'll do better on the real exams next week...
