Prospective Columbia 2023 Class Discussion (ED and RD)

I wanted to create this thread to meet some of the other students (juniors) interested in applying to Columbia in the fall and maybe get some tips from current students!

A little bit about me: prospective Neuroscience and Behavior major that also wants to continue taking Chinese and pickup/continue French, IB diploma candidate, passionate about MMA (particularly jiu jitsu!), speech and debate captain, mock trial witness, and African Dancer. I'm also a chair person of my school's Apiary (beekeeping club)/Garden club and have been conducting research at an institution (with a mentor of course) since Freshman year. My main goal in life is to work for Doctors without Borders, that's why I want to study French as well as my science major.

I'm really nervous about applying because I haven't taken my SAT yet (taking it in a few weeks) and don't know how well I'm going to perform. The main reasons I'm in love with Columbia are the courses offered for my intended major, the core (I love art, music and literature), their jiu jitsu club and the city (I have family who lives there).

What are your interests, what do you love about Columbia and how are you preparing your application?

I kinda feel bad, but I'm only applying to Columbia in case I don't get into my dream schools during EA. CS major with an internship at an intl nonprofit, work in IT, couple Bs here and there (mainly in math and physics which is rough), on one of the world's top mock trial teams (and am one of the top ranked mock trial lawyers/witnesses), and I love to sing. Columbia seems to have a really nice location, but I'm not sure if it's my fit yet.

I'm in the same position as you, I haven't taken my SAT yet, will be on Oct. 8, but I have started an intensive SAT Prep course that's 3 hours a day 2 days a week. I am a prospective Political Science Major and Art History Minor, possible Pre-Law, I am also passionate about technical theatre. My main goal in life is to become perhaps a political or a Sports Journalist. Columbia is in my top 3 choices so I hope I get in! I'm applying RD but I may apply ED to Barnard, my 1st pick.
