Winter and transportation

I have discovered that Cornell C has a Hertz rental car available on campus. Are there any students here who have experience with it? How are the roads between Mt. Vernon and CR in the winter time? Are they kept pretty clear? How many weeks/months out of the year are snowy or icy? Are there better ways to get into CR? Thank you!

Since Highway 30 is a major highway it is the first road cleared and is usually pretty good. Snow and ice is typically cleared within 24 hours of a major bad storm and typically within just a couple of hours of a snowstorm. Weeks and months of snow depends on the year. Typically the roads are only covered just during the snow and shortly thereafter so it is not like they get covered and stay that way.

Thanks, @iadorking. My D will be going to a different college, but one close enough that the same information will still apply. We come from a place where the town shuts down at the threat of snow, so this will be interesting for my daughter!
