hey guys,
here is the thing, Cornell is my dream school. i'm a sophomore i got all A's in my freshman year. then i change to a competitive school in 10th grade and it is my first year learning Spanish. i got mostly A's and few B's in all my other subject class. however, in Spanish i keep getting bad grade like 70 over and over again. so i decided to take Chinese 2 next year. but i am scare that Cornell will reject because i can't learn Spanish.
im going to try to get 98's in all my classes in my junior year. Also, i'm to get a 2300+ on my SATs and 800s on 5 SAT subject tests. by the end of my junior year, i may have a 3.99 or 4.0 GPA.

so is my spanish grade going to hurt me?

11grade class
English honors
ap US
chinese 2
function analysis honors(pre-cal)
physics honors
ap environmental science
programming honors

ECs
Rowing(crew) 4 year- very good, planning to get recruited
500 hours of community services
NHS
physics club( maybe vice president)
(i don't have any time for other club because of rowing practice)

should i take the ACT, will it help?

AP
us history
environmental science
cal ab
computer science
Chinese
biology

by the way im apply to college of engineering.

should i apply to other ivys?

please tell me what are my chances?

If your grades and scores are what you hope them to be, and if you are good enough to be recruited for rowing, you have a good chance.

With this, I'll make a gratuitous comment. The grammar in your post is terrible. I know things are loosey goosey here, but I don't see a 2300+ if this is representative.

You won't have any kind of indication until: 1) You get your GPA & class rank at the end of Junior year 2) You get your test scores (SAT / ACT). Take the SAT / ACT in the fall to get an indication of where you stand, I've seen plenty of students on here who find out that actually taking the test is tougher than doing the practice tests.

thank you for the response. another question, will my Spanish grade effect me acceptances. is it going to stop me from getting recruited. does my grades and test scores matter if i am planning to get recruited? what should i do to make up the bad grade in Spanish. should i take the SAT 2 Spanish because i can't retake the class.

One grade in one course won't be the determining factor. I have a friend who got a 75 in Precalculus, and still went on to get accepted into Harvard EA. I also have friends who had perfect grades but got rejected or waitlisted from their top schools.

If everything turns out the way you expect it to, then yes, you'll probably be fine. As far as SATIIs, I'd say focus on ones you think you will do very well on. Testing isn't everything, but it helps if the scores you send are good. I'd suggest taking US History since you're taking the AP anyways, and maybe Math II or Bio since you're taking the APs for those.

Also I just would like to add that even if you think you're going to be recruited, you should still do well in school. Someone from my neighborhood was accepted to a LAC for tennis, but his grades were awful and got worse senior year, so they almost rescinded him (but he apologized and managed to bring them up slightly, so they made him take a gap year).

    Good luck!

I got in RD with a B- in Honors Chemistry my sophomore year. One grade isn't going to kill you.
