Hey fellow future Cornellians and all current Cornellians: Did you read an article in the Cornell Review, Cornell's conservative newspaper, completely denouncing Cornell's administration and president for being liberal. The author also condemned affirmative action and racism on campus! I was shocked when i read it! Its disgusting!

Where are my fellow liberal Cornellians? You need to stand united against the College Republicans, or else they will go to great lengths to destroy us.

I hear some bad things about the Cornell College Democrats. That they are in shambles. Im a member of the Young Democrats of America and if/when i get into Cornell for fall 2006, I will try to do everything I can to stop this!

Current Cornellians and future Cornellians, what are your opinions and views? It seems there is some serious fighting on campus.

Don't be so ignorant. Not all Republicans endorse the Cornell Review.

BTW, conservatives on campus bashing the President of Cornell is just completely unethical, and they have the nerve to blame the President for the slip in rankings? Where's the Cornell pride ppl???

I never said anything about all Republicans. And im not saying every republican endorses the review. Im just talking about those who support this article and the author himself. There is no need to call ppl ignorant, thats uncalled for.

There's no need to start another thread over this. That article has been talked about many times. It is not new. It was written two years ago. While I am not conservative, you have to consider the source: The Cornell Review

I'd take anything they say with a grain of salt. Ironically, I actually agree with them on a couple of points.

CR is a bunch of bs. it's like the lunatics. ppl just read it for kicks. you shouldn't get mad over anything said in it. they fabricated enough stuff that I don't even bother looking at the newspaper anymore unless i'm super bored (which unfortunately I have been so busy i can't afford to be bored). don't worry, cornell will be liberal enough for you.

Well, ye, obviously, but that person completely demoralized the administration. I know it was written in 2003, but its important to this day, because people are complaining why Cornell's rating is going down, everyday in these threads, and its the same thing over and over again. Articles like these are what cause all the fuss.

"I hear some bad things about the Cornell College Democrats. That they are in shambles"

HHAHAHA, just like the national Democratic Party! I didn't see you actually prove anything in your post, you hardly responded to the actual article really, instead you responded to the tone of the article...

"The author also condemned affirmative action and racism on campus! I was shocked when i read it! Its disgusting! "

What?! You're disgusted that the author condemned racism?!?!?!

Furthermore, what is wrong with "bashing" the president of your own university if you disagree with him. That's how it should work, otherwise nothing would ever get done. If you want a place where people are too scared to speak out you can take a trip back to the Soviet Union a few years ago.

Of course, I mean no harm by this post, but I just don't see your point.

Yes exactly. Liberals = dildos, large classes, etc.? Wat is that? Anyway, as a rebuttle, my point is that the "Cornell Review" is going way too far. Yes, people do have a right to speak, and btw, i was actually born in Moscow, the capital of the Soviet Union, and my parents were'nt scared at all to have their voices heard. You can't gain knowledge just from reading a textbook. Furthermore, and when i spoke about racism, i meant that the author accuses the administration of being racist, which I dont agree with.

Thanks for the added Democratic Party comment. Quite knowledgable of you.

Look: My point of this thread was to show people that this is one reason why the "ratings" at Cornell are falling. If there is no support for the administration, how do raters see a college with so much dissatisfaction with its leadsership. Lately, you've seen threads asking and pondering upon the question of why Cornell's rating on the US News list is so low, etc etc. I am not aware of the extent of the validity of the article, however, i am very certain about the false comments made on affirmative action. It doesnt matter what the "ratings" say, because its all about Yield. Cornell is a magnificent school not only for its academics, but its acceptance of a wide range of people with a wide range of SAT's, interests, activities, grades, etc. That is the ideal educational community, not like Harvard (unfairly and consistently at the number 1 slot on the US News ranking) which boasts its "educational prestige," however many studies have shown that not only are the people homogenous economically and socially, but also that they are depressed! Go figure. That is my point. That people should value Cornell more and stop looking at rankings!

I don't, i haven't read too much support for you. You're taking it way to seriously, probably because you're very one-sided and close minded. I'm not saying i completely agreee with the article or anything, but i'm not ready to go out and murder any republican i see. besides, why do you care so much? you haven't even been accepted yet.

Actually, thats pretty rude to call someone closed-minded if you dont even know them. You really dont know my political standing at all. Im quite a moderate Democrat actually. Anyway, thats not the point, the point is that im the President of a chapter of the Young Democrats of America in NYC, and it doesnt matter if i havent been accepted yet or not. I just think that since College Democrats are part of my organization, that Cornell, which i have very high respect for, shouldnt have people writing articles like that. And im not a lunatic, if thats what you are thinking. Im actually quite knowledgable about the political arena, since as you see, im quite involved, therefore, i wont go out and murder every republican. I never said that nor implied anything close to that. I care because i never thought that there were people on campus who feel that way about the school. After doing researching and talking to Cornell graduates, undergrads, and rising Cornellians, nobody ever even mentioned anything like that of the article. Thats why im just somewhat angry/shocked but i assume also that some of that must be true. Therefore, one can deduce that i am not closed-minded and am open to all people's views. Thats what i said in my first entry.

How is calling someone disgusting for saying they don't like affirmative action being real openminded and respecting people's opinions?
    haha, ignorance makes me laugh.

I do not think you are closed minded. But if you were "shocked" that people held views against affirmative action and against racism, like you said you did in your first post("The author also condemned affirmative action and racism on campus! I was shocked when i read it! Its disgusting! ")then you must be at least sheltered. The same goes for disgusted.

(While I don't make this conclusion, it can be made: If you are "disgusted" by someone elses opposing view than you can be seen as closed minded.)

Again, your problem with the "bashing" of Cornells own president reminds me of those annoying hardcore conservatives who complain whenever someone disagrees with the American Administration.

    Lets Get some stuff straight!

    1. People are entitled to their own opinions.

    2. People are free to say or write anything they want, regardless of whether you think it's fair or not.

    3. The cornell review is notoriously conservative. I disagree with it, and essensially disregard it. If you're worried about cornell's image i'd say keep that under wraps haha. now folks, thats my OPINION!!! that doesn't mean its right, fair, the same as yours, etc. whatever! The bottom line is that they're entitled to equate liberals with dildos and larage classes and blame it all on the president, even if many of us disagree with it. For those of you concerned about cornell's image, I suggest you stop posting in this thread, and let the radical conservatives (MY OPINION!!!) talk amongst themselves as it smoulders and dies.

As a little additional note, I did not read the article. I have read a good number of cornell review's articles and they all have been radically conservative (IN MY OPINION!!!), so I didn't bother with reading one more that i'm sure 90% of which i'd fundamentally disagree with. That granted, I need to credit cornell review with saying SOME stuff I probably agree with. There are very few schools of thought that are all bad, and the cornell review does not fall into that catagory.

Ok, i do attest the fact that i shouldn't have said "disgusting/disgusted." Poor choice of wording, i do apologize for the misunderstanding. And im not shocked at that specifically, im shocked at the concept itself that people are writing articles so demoralizing to Cornell itself!!!! Thats my point. I never knew such sentiment even existed! That is my point! Get that straight! I am not attacking republicans, for the last time, i am not! I am not attacking any conservatives nor am i associating all republicans/conservatives at Cornell with the Cornell Review, nor am i assuming that all repubs support the Cornell Review. And trust me, im not a hardcore liberal, im far from that, again, i am not like that. And how can i be sheltered, when i live in the middle of New York City, in a borough with more than 250 nationalities and languages. I associate with people from all over the world, and i definately have an open mind on things.

Please, so we can let the animosity, the insults on my shoulders, and the arguing stop, lets stop this, please.
