If I take the SAT more than 3 times, Cornell will average my scores?

I'm sure what you mean is that if you take the SAT's more than once, they take the best score from each section and combine to one SAT score. Example:
    test one: 680(math) + 660(reading) + 680(essay sec.) = 2020
    test two: 710 (math) + 650(reading) + 690(essay sec.) = 2050
    test three: 690(math) + 700(reading) + 680(essay sec.) = 2070
    total: 710(math) + 700(reading) +690(essay sec.) = 2100

I don't know about averaging your scores(never heard of that happening), but they will take the highest sectional score for each section, as Cesar described. This doesn't really benefit you because it benefits all the other applicants equally in theory, it merely lets the school appear to have higher average SAT scores. Tricky...:p

good point sparticus lol. i never really thought of that. so if anybody is intimidated by any of the scores posted, just know that people most likely took them two or three times!

well. ive heard of schools 'averaging' out when you take too many times, but i have no clue which schools does that. and ive also heard that some take your most recent or your best test on the same day. dont think cornell does that. taking the SAT 4 times MIGHT make it look bad, but i have no clue. Cuz it could appear that you're really desperate or something of this sort

my GC said to only take the SAT more than twice if I expect a big improvement. then again, the GCs at my school are inept, and I don't know much about cornell ..
