No Dartmouth Peer Rec.

greenburritogreenburrito 9 replies3 threads New Member
I just discovered via Dartmouth's website a few weeks ago that they "strongly recommend" a peer review. It wasn't on the Common App, so I completely missed it. Now I'm reading all sorts of things, such as people saying not having a peer rec. is essentially an automatic rejection, and starting to freak out.
I have great stats and had an amazing Dartmouth interview.
Is it really going to hurt my chances not having a peer rec.?
Thank you!

Go get one. People are late with this every year. It is important. The deadline is not. You are really, really late. I hope you have a good friend who can do this ASAP.

11 days out from the admissions decisions date? It seems like it's too late...

I'm not sure it's ever too late, but it's dicey, to be sure.

Any idea how much of an affect the peer rec. has on already qualified candidates?
Also, thank you so much for your prompt responses. I appreciate it.

Dartmouth would not ask for the peer recommendation if they did not want one. It is very important to them.

I agree that it's very important to get one in, however I can tell you with absolute certainty that it doesn't mean automatic rejection if you don't. My son didn't submit one, ended up with a likely letter, and attends there now. But in no way am I counseling you to do without one, I wouldn't count on the same thing happening to you or anyone else. I'm just saying that for the narrow question of automatic rejection, the answer is no.
