Davidson 2023 RD Waitlist?

Daughter was waitlisted. I know that Davidson accepts a small number off the waitlist each year, but I have not been able to find out how many are usually offered a spot on that waitlist and how many accept that spot. We are trying to figure our what her chances are - thanks!

Also looking for same information and whether the waitlist is ranked overall or say by major? Any information appreciated.

Yes I saw that - and only a few get offered admission, unfortunately. I was still wondering how many are offered the waitlist to begin with. Are we talking about 30/1000 people that end up getting in? Sigh....she is still going to go on the list, but we are being realistic about her chances.

I don't have number for Davidson, but looking at similar schools, but looking at a Freshman class of around 500, schools will admit something like 1300 kids, and put a similar number one the W/L. They'll take maybe 2% off the wait list, something like up to 30 students. So it depends on how you look at it. 30 students of 500 is 6%, so that's a decent percentage of the Freshman class coming off a WL. But, if you look at your odds of coming off the wait list it's more like 1 or 2%.

But remember, not everyone offered a spot on WL takes it. So it's not 30 out of 1000 (if that's the denominator which I really don't know); it might be 30 out of 600. And some on WL do more around expressing continuing interest, etc. while others just sign up and nothing else; they move on and get excited about other options.

Last year my D was offered a WL spot at a college that she didn't take b/c she'd changed her mind about that college b4 decisions came out. At another she signed up for it but then after some other acceptances came in she never gave it a second thought -- didn't do the LOCI, updates or anything though technically she was still on their WL.

I wonder how many on the WL are actively still pursuing admittance through updates, etc -- maybe 25%? I really don't know.

Anyway, it's still a small % that get offers so by all means kids should not expect to be admitted, but I just wanted to add this nuance.

I wish colleges were more transparent about these numbers: how many WL spots offered; how many students take them; how many admitted. It would reduce a lot of anxiety and wondering on kids' part.

My son received a call today about 1:30pm letting him know if he is off the waitlist and has been offered a spot in the Class of 2023. He is ecstatic, as it was his first choice since the minute he set foot on campus. Best of luck to everyone else waiting to hear.

My D declined the offer today. Good luck to everyone! I've felt kind of warmth in Davidson forum. Honestly it is sad to see let it go ...

@momcatof4 Thanks so much. He is over the moon about it. He was waitlisted at UNC Chapel Hill, Davidson and Wake Forest, but Davidson was his first choice so he is so happy. I wish everyone could go exactly where they wanted.

@SkyeRider20 Her interest has moved from the small LACs like Davidson, Middlebury ... and then to bigger schools like Emory, WashU .. finally landed on USC, the biggest in her list. Actually move from the east to the west .. closer to home. We are in Utah.
