Any idea when RD notices go out?

Does anyone have any knowledge about when Denison typically sends out their admissions decisions? DD has heard from several schools, but Denison is her number one choice so she's anxiously waiting news from them before making any decisions. She did receive a nice card from her admissions rep last week, but no word on decisions yet.

Also, does anyone know if they send out financial aid info at the same time?
That's our worst fear...that she will get in but not get enough aid for us to afford it! Our EFC is above & beyond what we can realistically do without going much further into debt than we're comfortable with, so we are hoping for some merit scholarships. I wish she would have realized she wanted to apply to Denison earlier so that she could have at least had a shot at some of the scholarships that had the 12/15 deadline. I don't think she even realized how much she would like it until she went to visit in February and felt immediately at home.

I don't know about dates at this point (although it appears that no one else on this forum has heard yet either) but when my son applied last year he got his (merit) scholarship letter in the same packet as the admissions letter. He also has a small music scholarship which he got notice of shortly after the admissions letter.

Good luck. I hope she gets in with a nice offer. It's a great school.

The Denison website link to the course catalog says decisions will be sent in mid-March. It is actually nice to know that there are others who haven't heard yet.

I hope we hear soon! My D would like to schedule an overnight visit to help her with her final decision but it is pointless to schedule this trip unless we know that she has been admitted with an appropriate scholarship offer.

    Good luck to you!

I got my acceptance letter today! I applied for the scholarship/awards date, which was December 15th, so I may have gotten mine a bit earlier than people who applied for the January 15th date. They awarded me an $11,000 scholarship, which is awesome.

When I got home from work today, the acceptance was in the mail and DD got a $15,000 Founders Scholarship! We had to leave a message on her voice mail, since she's away at a program in DC this week, but she'll be very excited. I am hoping that we might get a bit more need-based aid, because even with this, it makes the total cost per year a bit we're really comfortable with, but it definitely brings it within "consideration" range.

She is a swimmer and the Denison swim legacy has been a big part of her decision-making, plus she's really liked the coaches and swimmers she's had contact with these past few months. Its a little hard for DH & I because we're in Virginia and its a little further from home than we'd prefer, but I guess we'd adjust!

Congratulations to your daughter Lewis1212! It might seem far, but Denison is such a warm, welcoming place that you'll feel comfortable with her there.

If I can help anybody with Denison info let me know. My son is a current freshman at Denison, so I might be able to answer some questions.

Weenie, what part of the country are you from? D has applied, liked it a lot, but is concerned about how far it is from home (we are in Calif.). She doesn't have her decision yet, but a few weeks ago she received a very encouraging handwritten note from her admissions rep at Denison saying she did a good job on her application, thanking her for applying, etc., so we are optimistic she will be admitted.

She is also a swimmer, but not sure if she would be welcome to participate as she is not as fast as the team seems to be. (Swimming is a blood sport in that part of Ohio.)

rix: We are in upstate NY, about 7 hours away. Son flies back and forth. He has three friends from California. Denison offers (for free) a very convenient shuttle bus (it's like a real, big charter bus) back and forth to the airport frequently at break times. That has been a life saver!

I don't know much about the swimming teams, but my son has a friend on the water polo team -- we went to a meet over parents weekend and it sure looked fun (and HARD!).

    Good luck to your daughter!

Weenie: I grew up in upstate New York. That's why I live in California now. :)

Lewis1212: Where are you located? Trying to see if anyone out West has received a packet yet. I just noticed that in your original post that you mentioned your D receiving a nice note from admissions recently. Mine did too, so I'm going to take your D's subsequent admission as a positive sign. My D also visited for the first time in early February and really liked it, as did I. She is also a swimmer, but as I mentioned above, not sure she is good enough to swim at Denison. I think a LAC in California is still her first choice, but if she receives any kind of merit award, Denison will get serious consideration.

Those of you who were admitted, would you mind posting stats? Thanks.

I'm in Virginia, but on the far eastern coast (Hampton Roads/VA Beach area) so we'll have to drive all the way across the state before we even hit W.Va. Don't rule out swimming if she's interested without at least talking to the coach. DD said their team is huge, and I'm sure they have swimmers at all levels. That's one of the nice things about DIII, more room for kids to participate who wouldn't be allowed to take up lane space at a larger school.
    Good luck!

Lewis1212: D is admitted with $11K Alumni Award! After a much less selective college that admitted her did not give her any, I was reining in my expectations about merit money. She seemed really pleased. I told her what your D said about swim team being huge, meaning she may be able to swim.

We are still waiting to hear from her first choice LAC in California, ansd some others. But this news from Denison has lessened the anxiety level in our house.

Do you think your D will choose Denison?
