I got this textbook called "The Americans" by McDougal Littell, is it good enough or should I get a better textbook?

We used The American Pageant at my school and it was a pleasure to read. Kennedy told the history of the US as if it were a story. Lots of figurative language to keep one's mind on what they're reading. You should be able to get a copy of the 12th edition (what we used in my class) for not much. Keep in mind I didn't self study, but I enjoyed the reading, which should motive a self-studier.
