How competitive are the intro chemistry courses?
My d is interested in a couple of majors in the School of Agriculture. Are the entry level chemistry and Bio classes considered weed out classes

BIS 2A is the hardest in the intro Bio 2ABC series IMO (unless you love cell bio and covering things at the molecular level), 2B is a bit easier because it's mainly ecology and genetics, and I've heard 2C is the easiest and mainly deals with taxonomy. I was lucky to have skipped out of BIS 2A because I took the equivalent of it at my JC. And if your daughter has taken AP Chem or even just regular chem in high school and got a good grade then, I'm sure she'll do fine in the 1st quarter of the gen chem series. Students in chemistry classes also have the opportunity to go to workshops to better understand the material.

Thank you Sopranokity- She has not taken any HS Chem. She has tried to get into the CC Chem class for the last 3 semesters with no luck. She took the harder Physics, Bio and the equivalent of AP Enviro Science at our community college.

I'll have to disagree. Biology 2A is a lot of cellular biology and genetics, but it is definitely an interesting class with a lot of work, but not very difficult. Bis 2B is by far the easiest - population genetics and ecology. Biology 2C, is the worst, imo. You have to memorize the phylogenetic trees for plants, metazoans and their subclades, and all synapomorphies. It's not very entertaining. The Chemistry series is definitely doable. Just do the work, read ahead, and pay attention in class.
