# AMC 10 Help/Score boosting

Registered User Posts: 7 New Member
Hi everyone, I am a new member here. So far I've prepping a lot for the AMC 10 test after I miserably failed at the AMC 8. I have already done around 20 tests which I averaged around 15/25, which is a 90 without penalty. I have been looking at what I got wrong and how I could improve, but every time, I would average around a 90. I know the cutoff is 120, and this test is in about a month. I have done the Art of Problem Solving series and probably benefited from it. But still there has to be some way to just score 30 more points to qualify for the AIME. If you have tips and how you studied, or even qualified for the AIME, please tell me how. Thanks.

@Seoulian

I made AIME six times, with a highest score of 11.

First set a couple goals. You only need 20/25 to guarantee making AIME, so set a goal to be able to at least solve #1-#20.

Honestly, the best way is to solve lots of problems. But you want to be smart about it. Instead of just doing practice or past AMC 10s, perhaps do a lot of problems by topic.

For example, if you are learning algebra, spend a day learning polynomials and Vieta's formulas and other things related to polynomials. The next day, perhaps recurrences and the characteristic polynomial. Pick areas you are particularly weaker in.

@MITer94 ,

sorry for posting at an older thread.
I was looking for help to improve amc 10 score.

currently getting around 18 questions right and 7 questions wrong out of 25 on old amc 10 tests.
These 7 wrong questions are usually the last few questions.

In your post, you mentioned some concepts like Vieta's formula and polynomials.

Can you please post the list of concepts that one should prepare for amc 10.
If possible can you also mention an old amc 10 question number and year corresponding to that concept.
Thanks for the help.

@learning19 AoPS provides a wealth of preparation resources. I suggest starting there:
