  I sense this longstanding trend among the elite schools isn't going to stop anytime soon. The NYT article about Stanford might not be so far off in a decade or two.

  With 32,891 applications and an enlarged class, say 2350 admits, the admit rate should be around 7.1% this year. Up from 6.3% last year.

  Being a bit nit picky here, but it will probably still be around 6.9%, since the class is only expanding by about 200 students (with current yield rates that equates to about 290 more admits).

  @reuynshard, 290 admits could be correct. But could be a bit higher.
  
  The article says, "The number of students to be admitted this year will increase by between 300 and 400 with the opening of the two new residential colleges in the fall."

  does anyone know when yale sends the acceptance mail? Does it arrive before the portal updates or no? how does that work?

  @ivzdays: Acceptance packages are mailed on the same day the portal is updated, this year on March 30th. It usually takes 2-5 days for acceptance packages to arrive. Yale does not snail-mail rejection letters if a student has already checked the portal and received the bad news: http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2009/03/27/rejection-letters-go-paperless/
