AP classes bringing down my GPA???

writer57writer57 1 replies3 threadsRegistered User New Member
I’m going to be a junior in high school. As a sophomore I took APUSH and got an A in the class and a 5 on the AP test. As a junior i’m taking AP Language and Comp., AP Gov (one semester), AP macroeconomics (one semester), and AP psychology. I’m really worried that I’ll get a B in AP Lang and AP Macroeconomics. My cumulative unweighted GPA for sophomore year was a 3.66, and 4.32 unweighed and I really don’t want that to go down. Do you think colleges would see that I got a B in an AP class and be okay with it since it’s more rigorous? Or will they automatically consider me unable to handle college coursework?

To have a 3.66 you must already have some B's on your transcript, so why would a B in an AP class be cause for concern? You're going to be just fine. A 3.66 is a bit low for an unhooked applicant at the tippy top colleges, but it is still a good GPA and there are still over 2,000 colleges that will be happy to take you.

Find the right colleges for you. That means, notjust what you want, but where you match what they want.

Getting B's is not going to automatically rule you out anywhere. But the more competitive admission is to the colleges you are considering, the more they are going to end up taking kids that get A's in challenging classes. They only have so many seats and have to make choices.

As for predicting B's in these classes, why would you do that? Is there some reason you don't think you are capable of A work? Be sure you are studying as effectively as possible; read the book "Make it Stick" this summer that talks about the science of learning and has lots of tips on best habits for HS and college kids.

Start looking at the website "Colleges that change lives"and find 5-6 colleges that you like. Add your flagship university. Run the NPC on them all and see which ones are affordable.
    3.6 is fine.
