Welcome all UCD applicants. I have started a discussion thread for the 2024 applicants and hopefully admits. Feel free to discuss anything about the application process along with questions about UC Davis.

Once the decisions are posted, please fill out the template on the Stats only thread.

Hi @Gumbymom. Do you know which UCs have early admits and when they might be? The only one I saw was for UCSC in which they begin their admits from mid-Feb.

UCB does early admits in February for Regent and Chancellor scholarship invitees and High stat applicants.

UCSC started early admits last year. Before they would setup one day with notification times by applicants last name. Last year was different and it may not necessarily be repeated. According to their timeline, decisions for Freshman is March 15-30.

UCI admits Regent scholars and Honors program students near the end of February based on past years.

UCSB sends out Chancellor reception invites in February. Recipients of the invites are almost always accepted into UCSB.

In general, most decisions will be posted in March.

UCD posts all their decisions on the 2nd Friday of March again based on past years.

@PamelaP. I just ran into someone whose son received early admittance to UCI and into their Honors Program.

As far as I know, Davis notifies everyone on the same day.

Both UCI and UCB sent out early admission to top students. Additionally, UCSB mailed Chancellors Reception invites and UCLA emailed Regents invites. Neither are an outright acceptance but both indicate a high likelihood of admission.

How difficult is it to be admitted to the Honors Program? I'm assuming since a lot of the high stats kids who have UCB and UCLA as their top choices would've applied to Davis considering it's the same application, it must be really hard.

@AndyTalbot707: UC Davis does not list their UHP criteria for in-coming Freshman applicants except it is by invitation only:
All students who are offered the Regents Scholarship will be invited to join UHP; the remaining invitations are based on an Undergraduate Admissions holistic review.

Regents is an academically based scholarship so a larger emphasis would be placed on GPA and test scores.

As a current student: Select high performing, high potential UC Davis first-year students are invited to apply through the UHP On-Campus Admit (OCA) program. Selected first-year students will be emailed an electronic application during Winter quarter. The application consists of short open-ended essays and questionnaire responses and also requires a recommendation form from a UC Davis faculty member, graduate student, or staff member. Applicants will be notified by mid-April of their acceptance/decline status.

@Gumbymom On another thread you mentioned UCD would "likely" post decisions on 3/6. Are you leaning toward 3/6 over 3/13 now? TIA!

@kikiob: I am leaning towards 3/6 since 3/8 was for 2019 and 3/9 was 2018. 3/13 is still possible since UCD has not confirmed any date.

I have no insider information just trying to make an educated guess. It will happen within the next 2 weeks.

Right around 3 pm. Here is last year's thread where in post #137 it shows acceptances a few minutes before 3 pm. https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-davis/2117872-uc-davis-class-of-2023-applicant-thread-p7.html

Such as volunteering in funding research for cancer and varsity basketball player? I have more EC but it would take a while to list. Please be honest I would really appreciate it, thanks.

Also I was going through something in my Sophomore year in my essay, explaining why my grades declined but after that it has been an upward trend, do you think the essay should help?

@Jokes123 in my opinion, anyone has a chance. I'm just a parent with a kid who goes to UCD and another who is applying. @Gumbymom is the best person to ask about chances.

@Jokes123: I agree with @lkg4answers that everyone has a chance some greater than others.

UC’s are very GPA focused so what are your UC GPA’s? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

UC’s look at all 3 GPA’s, test scores, HS course rigor, personal insight essays and EC’s during their application review. Also writing about overcoming personal/health issues in your essay will be considered.

You are obviously a capable student since you have a very competitive SAT.

All I can do is post admission stats information to help you gauge your chances. Unfortunately stats do not tell the whole story.

2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 capped weighted and not major specific:
    UCD: 9%

2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
    UCD: 47%

2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
    UCD: 4.13 (4.00-4.26)

    2019 Data:
    25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
    UCD: 1230-1490

    Best of luck.

Just received the following email from admissions executive:

Thank you for your email and your interest in the University of California, Davis. As you may know, admission to UC Davis is very competitive – this year we received almost 76,800 freshmen applications, and we only have capacity to enroll approximately 6,400. For this reason, we had to waitlist many talented and high-achieving students like yourself.

There are several factors that are considered in the holistic review process, including academic achievements, demonstrated leadership, community service, talent, creativity, and athletic endeavors, all considered in the context of life experiences and opportunities available. Of these factors, the strength of the applicant’s high school academic record is the most important component.

We are still finalizing our admission selection process, and admission decisions will be released late next week via email and MyAdmissions.

Looks like admissions decisions will be releasing next week - kinda bummed that I didn’t get accepted but who knows if things change in a week. If you also got the same message as me, please feel free to post a comment. Good luck to everyone else!
