Really surprising that you were waitlisted, with the 3.97 gpa, assuming that is unweighted. Anyway, I would choose Berkeley over Emory anyday.

New piece of information - last year they took of 20 people from the waitlist. This year I talked to an admission counselor and he said how many people will be taken off the waitlist solely depends on whether above or below 1240 people decide to enroll.

actually the 3.97 is weighted...but do u think i can get off the waiting list and in....1210 SAT....A+++++ extra curriculars.....student council....10+ clubs

It's the quality of the clubs, ie leadership, not the quantity. If you really wish to get off the waitlist, I suggest you send off an email or two to admissions and write a letter or two + get another rec letter. Maybe borrow their dvd if it's still available?

But what the heck do I know? I got waitlisted too 1480 SAT, 4.5+GPA, Tennis, Club leadership, research, summer programs, blah. I got into your schools too and am going to attend UCLA. Good luck!

My son got waitlisted at Emory as well. 1480 SAT, 3.8 unweighted GPA, captan of the tennis team, volonteering, etc

Do you know how many people were placed on the waitlist this year? Have they started taking people off the waitlist?

I would appriciate any info - thanks!!!

I talked to an admissions counselor at Emory, and he told me that a lot of people were on the waitlist this year. Emory won't start taking people off of the waitlist until about mid-May.

Thanks a lot! Will have to wait and see i guess. Do you know if somebody who had been waillisted has a better chance of getting in as a transfer student?
  • copper45copper45 Registered User Posts: 182 Junior Member
According to the admissions office, it's easier to get in transfer to Emory than as a freshman. So I'd say if you were waitlisted you have a good chance.

they havent taken people off the waitlist yet, since they dont even know how many kids are actually enrolling. But I sent in my card today saying I won't be going to Emory, you're now both one step closer to being in.

    i_wanna_be_Brown,

    Where are you going? Brown?

i wish, waitlisted there. If i dont get off the Brown or Hopkins waitlist I will be attending Wash U. Emory is the only other school i was even accepted to. (Well, if you dont count Hopkins accepting me and on the 29th moving me to the waitlist, or Penn accepting me in early march and then moving me to the waitlist in mid to late march)

how can u be accepted and then moved to the waitlist?! ive never heard of that and it sounds wrong.
  • fancyydkfancyydk Registered User Posts: 124 Junior Member
yea, I was wondering about that too... how's that possible?

I never got a letter of acceptance, but like Hopkins regional rep told my guidance counselor on the friday before that I had been accepted, and Penn sent me materials for accepted students along with the waitlist card. Penn's regional rep also told my guidance counselor in early march that I was most likely going to be accepted.
