How tough is it to receive the Presidential Scholarship?

edited January 2012 in Drexel University
On Drexel's website, it talks about many scholarships including the Presidential Scholarship. The scholarship is a full-ride to Drexel University.

"Presidential Scholarships are awarded to a select number of students enrolling in each college or school. Presidential Scholarship awards are based on a student's academic profile, including high school GPA, high school curriculum, class rank (if applicable), standardized test scores, and recommendations. These students are awarded full-tuition scholarships renewable each year that the student maintains a 3.0 GPA."

While I can see it's competitive, what kind of stats do students usually have that get this scholarship?

Thanks! :) :)

I'm sure it's Drexel's way of luring Ivy League-material to the campus. Do you go to a private high school or public? (or charter?) I'm pretty sure people with the better resources have a more competitive edge (IB curriculum, AP classes available all four years, etc.).

Don't take my word completely, lol it's just a guess.

Note: They say the scholarship is "full-tuition", not full-ride (which would also include room and board. Like the OP, I would be very interested in the stats of students who were awarded a Presidential Scholarship.

I didn't get up getting the Presidential Scholarship (since I already received notification of my A.J. Drexel scholarship amount), so I guess I have a good idea of what they're looking for haha.

I see what your saying about the full ride vs. full tuition, thanks for catching me on that :)

    @ sinceredesichick,
I'm curious to know when you applied and when you received a decision. I applied on December 1st- when do you guys think I should expect to hear back?

I also never received any confirmation that my file was complete or link to an application status-checker...was I supposed to or does Drexel not send these types of things?

It must be hard to get the presidential scholarship. i have a 4.1 and only got the $22,000 worth of scholarship money. My FASFA should catch me up with the rest.

My bet is you have to be of a different race or something; not being racist or stereotypical, but a Caucasian person gets little love.

newyork2010 - you should get both an email and snail mail letter with id/pwd to login to a status page where you will see if things are missing with application as well as acceptance status when issued. If you haven't received either an email or letter you might want to give admissions a call to check on your file.

Where did you guys get the scholarship information? In the Acceptance Package that was mailed to you? I haven't heard anything, unless I actually didn't get a scholarship haha..

Hey, I just wanted to say that I also got the AJ Drexel Scholarship. However, just today I was snail-mailed that I was a Presidential Scholarship nominee, so just keep checking your mail I guess? Haha.

Oh awesome alphajane! That gives me a lot of hope haha. I just figured that I didn't get the Presidential Scholarship because they already gave me an A.J. Drexel Scholarship award. I'll be checking :)

also, would you want to PM me what your stats are? This is purely to see how competitive of stats one needs to even be considered. If not, no problemo :)

Did you guys have to apply for the AJ Scholarship? I just heard about it today, and found out the deadline passed, lol. It also says you need to go to their campus for an interview.

Also, when were you guys notified that you had received the scholarship?

OP's quote on Presidential Scholarship considerations does not include extracurricular accomplishments.
