General Chemistry Placement Exam Deadline?

proginoskes47proginoskes47 Registered User Posts: 6 New Member
edited June 2010 in Emory University
I've recently recieved the email saying that I need to take the General Chemistry Placement Exam by June 10th, but what does that exactly mean? Should I take the exam before June 10th, or is June 10th included as the last possible day to take the exam?

Thanks for all your help.

No, you need to take it before enrolling though. Many take it when they arrive on campus. During the orientation week for example.

Does everyone need to take placement exams to take classes at Emory... I'm confused. I certainly hope not... I finished full IB so I think I'm well prepared. Do only some people take these placement exams?

No, only for certain classes which are Spanish, German, and Chemistry I think. I'm pretty sure all enrolling in these courses have to take the placement exams. The language exams are perhaps meant in part to prevent overcrowding lower level courses with those that have a solid foundation in the language. Sometimes they can even read past people who intentionally fail (but rarely). As for chem, many with IB/AP credit struggle with it (maybe like 1-2 exams). Same for biology. Primarily 142 is a problem spot (both bio and chem), if this is the case (as in people with AP/IB credit struggling). But again, it really depends on professors partially. Bio 141 this year has the same line-up of profs. as last year, so it'll also be tough. Don't know who'll be teaching 142. Chem 141 has the big 3 as normal, so it'll at least be moderately difficult. The noob profs. don't start coming in until second semester chem., so people will have more of a choice then.

I was asking not whether should I take it or not, but if I can take it on June 10th and still turn it in on time.

I'm pretty sure that's a yes and a yes for June 10th, if bernie said some take it during orientation which is during August. I think that's probably just a tentative deadline or something

I took mine the weekend before orientation started, just have to do it before you enroll in the course.
