New online FAFSA Skipping Questions

I am filling out the FAFSA for the first time and have not seen the questions relating to full or part time status or the drug question. Not a problem for my son, but was concerned I was missing some important questions and called the FAFSA site.

The first rep seemed very concerned and told me where to find the questions on the screen but they were not appearing on mine. I told him I would try another browser (although mine was supported) and call back. Still no luck on another browser.

I called back and got another agent that was not concerned and kept saying we could add the answers in later when we file our final taxes. He was not the least bit concerned and said it was probably due to skip logic. I don't know what skip logic would pass over the full or part time question, and he couldn't answer. He had no intention of reporting this as an issue and basically told me to get over it.

So, should I submit the form without having answered the full or part time question or is this going to cause trouble? Can anyone else see these questions on the online form?

Is this the first time your son is going to receive FA? I just did the FAFSA today and the question about drug offenses only appeared when I indicated I had received FA before(this semester, last semester, etc). The only thing I can think of is that if your son will be 1st time college for 2011-2012 then the drug offense question will never be activated.

Edit: I dont remember the FAFSA asking me if I was going full or part time at all.

Thanks for your input and quick reply!

I thought the drug question might be skipped for first timers, but still can not imagine why the full or part time question would be skipped. It just makes me nervous the staff couldn't explain it either.

Doesn't full or part time status affect aid?

It does not affect the EFC, which is what the FAFSA is calculating. It does affect aid. However the school will base aid on whatever the enrollment status ultimately is, whatever you put on FAFSA. My son's final semester he had put full time on FAFSA but actually ended up enrolling for less than full time. Believe me, the school only paid out aid based on his part time status.

And the drug thing relates to drug convictions while receiving federal aid. So if the student has never received aid before it is not relevant.

If the questions are not coming up for you to answer then you can't answer them. If it were me I would just submit it.

red, the drug question only pops up when you answer "yes" to "Have you ever received federal student aid?".
