IDOC - Nox tax filer's statement- confusion with deadlines

shadowcat2shadowcat2 Registered User Posts: 87 Junior Member
Hello, I am a student living outside USA. I am currently doing my undergraduates in Bangladesh and I plan to transfer my credits to USA. . I am also a US permanent resident(green card holder). I became one only last year. My mum is a green card holder while my dad isn't. My mum did not file fed taxes since she does not work. Dad is the only earning member in my family. He pays tax in Bangladesh, but he has no fed tax filing requirement because he is not a green card holder.

Because of my situation i am having difficulty completing the CSS profile. I plan to apply to Bryn Mawr College,Mount Holyoke College and Boston University. I just found out from their website that i need to send College Board non tax filer statement (both parents and students). However, i got confused about one thing. I did NOT start my CSS profile yet since most of the colleges that i want to apply to have a deadline on 1st March.

The IDOC website states that
“IDOC is only available to students that participating colleges and programs select and the College Board notifies for participation. Do not enter the site unless the College Board notified you that at least one of your colleges or programs participates in the IDOC Service.
The last date to access your IDOC status and/or print a duplicate cover sheet is January 16, 2013.”

Basically, what I understood is that I cannot access the IDOC until I complete my CSS profile. However, it appears I have only till January 16 to access my IDOC status and print the cover sheet. I am not sure how to fill CSS profile yet because of our tax situation. It might take a while to sort out all the information that I need. According to quote above, do I need to complete the CSS profile before January 16 and mail the non tax statement to college board by that date? If that is the case, then I am in serious trouble. I hope I misunderstood what IDOC meant and I still have march 1st to fill up the CSS profile and send the non tax filing statement to College Board.

I would really appreciate if you can clear out my confusion. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello there! I know I am bumping again. But can anyone help me figure out what is the January 16 deadline?

January 16 is probably the last date by which students filing for Spring 2013 can access the site. It will then probably shut down for a short period, and then reopen for 2013 applications. This shouldn't be a problem, since tax returns will not be accepted by the IRS until Januar 22nd at the earliest. If/when you need to submit something to idoc, you will be sent information from the participating school.

It is perfectly OK to email the colleges on your list, and ask about this. The financial aid offices have answered that question before.

I believe some websites tell students that IDOC will be available either the last week in Jan or the last week in Feb-- because most schools use IDOC to upload tax returns, it isn't available on Jan. 1 like the FAFSA is.

happymomof1,thank you for your advice. You're right. I should just mail the colleges on my list to clear my confusion once and for all.

purpleacorn, I will need IDOC to submit the non tax filer statement for parents and students. However, I will just have to mail the signed statements to college board, right? I guess I figure out once I register for the CSS profile. Hopefully, the registration will be done by tonight. As always, thank you for your reply.
