Does anyone have any knowledge on how financial aid works over the summer. Is it too late to do fasfa?i already did fasfa but we didn’t put the summer option in January because I wasn’t sure I was going to take summer course.

What "summer option" are you talking about? As far as I know, there is no question or "option" on FAFSA regarding summer academic work. If you've already submitted both the 2017-2018 FAFSA and the 2018-2019 FAFSA, you're covered for summer 2018, no matter which academic year your school puts the summer session in.

Well...it depends. What academic year is summer 2018 counted in...2018-2019 or...2017-2018?

Will you be taking the course at you regular college?

And what kind of aid did you get? Loans, Pell Grant, what??

Are you only taking one course? If so, any aid you get will be prorated based on that.

@kelsmom can a student even get aid in the summer for ONE course?

I’m taking it at Morrsvile State College which is a SUNY School. I go to SUNY Albany.

The physics course is 4 credits. If I need to be part time to get aid I’m not sure what course I need to take to get the required number of credits.

File FAFSA ASAP. How did you pay for the current school year? If your parents paid, and you didn’t take out any loans, then you can get up to a 5500 loan for this current school year and use that money towards summer.

    I am not sure...maybe @sybbie719 knows.

Would this student be considered a matriculated student where he plans to take his summer course? Or not?

He can’t officially get FA at a different school,,, but he might be able to back door some aid.

Say his parents paid $5k for school this current year and he didn’t take out loans. He can file FAFSA for this CURRENT ongoing school year, and get that $5k back as a loan....or a lesser amount if needed. Then he could use that money to pay for summer school.

OP, how many semesters of aid have you used? Are you the student who used 3 years of aid at a cc? If so, be careful not to eat through your aid before you graduate.

You are not a matriculated student at Morrisville so you will not be eligible for aid.

    Thank you @sybbie719 that’s what I thought.

@NASA2014 you can only receive need based aid at the ONE college where you are seeking your degree. The one you will be attending this summer...is NOT that school.

@thumper1 So the only way for me to get aid is to take a class at SUNY Albany? The problem is that I will need to take it online. My mom doesn't want me to take an online class as she says is only for people who work.
