My classes are all taken...

I'm a transfer student. All the classes I needed to take in the next semester have no seats left... Is there any hope for me to get in them? I really regret picking a late orientation date now...

I went to orientation yesterday. One of my needed classes are full but, I see 0/0 seats in some sections so maybe they are adding more for demand. Either way, I'm emailing my advisor today.

You're a lucky bastard. I was originally supposed to go on the 28th but I don't have a car and family problems came up and I couldn't make it on that date. My orientation is on the 3rd now.

I'm in a major where classes not only are offered once a year but they build up on each other.

If I can't get in, I'll be delayed another year and then I will really get ****ing ****ed off.

Wait until the drop/add period and then camp out on the course search page on the Blackboard site. Most likely, a few people will drop--especially if they miss the mandatory first day attendance. Then, you can pounce and take their seat. Law of the Jungle, baby.

You might also try talking to you academic advisor, although they may not be able to do much.

Could I attend the first day of class even if I'm not registered to secure a spot in case some people don't show up?

My community college didn't allow that for some reason.

If you are worried that you are going to miss something, don't sweat it. In my experience, not much gets done on the first day of class anyway.

If the classes are full, GO THE FIRST DAY no matter what. If anyone doesn't show up, they are supposed to be dropped (I say supposed, because some professors don't drop students, instead relying on the students to drop themselves).

Some programs are nice enough to sort of allow "dibs" on any open seats to those that show up the first day (I've had multiple classes do this, actually), where showing up the first day got you a spot in the class anyway. I've even had classes that had more people show up than there were seats that allowed everyone that showed up to be added (although I believe that this is up to the professor teaching).

Since you're apparently a meteorology major (judging by your post history), I wish you luck, especially if you're trying to get into MET2101/2700. For some reason they cut the number of seats in those classes significantly right after fall registration closed initially back in April.

Damn, I'm a transfer student, I can't really afford to miss an entire year worth of classes for my major because I'm a transfer student =(.

    Thanks for the tip though.

Just out of curiousity, are you just a transfer student or an upper division/Junior-Senior transfer??

My orientation is this Monday and after reading that your classes are full made me wonder if mine will too... I'm only taking Criminal justice and Computer Science courses.

Yes, I am an upper level student, which is why I need to take my classes. Better check your classes too, if you know what they are. I'm screwed if I can't get in my classes because if I don't they won't be offered for another year! And they are damn well required for me to take them to move on to the next level classes.

You should be able to get in. Just keep checking the available seats for the classes. It's a pain, but most likely someone will drop.

The thing with the Met classes he's trying to get into is that for some reason the department significantly lowered the number of seats for the classes (like from 50 to 30 for one, and 25 to 12 for the two sections for the other class), and they were already pretty much full before the department did that.

If he hasn't registered yet (and since his Orientation isn't until August 3rd, it would appear likely that this hasn't happened yet), then his best bet is to hope that his advisor at Orientation allows him to register for those two classes. Ms Burns may do that for him. If that doesn't work, then he's going to have to talk to the professors the first day of class and hope that they will allow him to register for the classes anyway.

Talk to an advisor, when I went to orientation they opened up seats for those of us there that day.

Lol the first day of class there is always a good amount of students that don't show up you'll see the first day how many open seats become available lol

What's your major That they opened seats for you? Because no one in my major could even get core classes as well as anyone else I met during orientation.

Good luck to you, I wish they were a little more helpful for transfer students because I know for myself I am not use to the add/drop.

Same here. I just went to the orientation this Monday and it really ticked me off that our adviser said "nope, sorry. No seats left. But I'll open a few seats for you guys" You're at that thing for 8 hours and they tell you the bad news at the end. I'm not sure how many seats she opened cause I wasn't even able to get ANY core classes for the Computer criminology section and the windows close this Friday....

    Pretty disappointing...
