Joining Frat at FSU and many things else

Hi, so i'm gonna join FSU next Jan after tough choosing between many schools.I have some questions.
_I'm 20 and i'm gonna be freshman at FSU,I don't like and don't want to drink, but still want to have fun, meet people, join social activities so can i join frat, when to join ?
_I'm taking Computer Science class. Is it time-consuming when i'm in a frat ? i want study beside having fun.
Finally,most important, from your perspective.
_If you were me, would you join frat ? Why or Why not ?
_What is it like in frat and not in frat? ( i mean comparing between life in a frat and life not in a frat, living in a normal dorm)
_When i was on orientation tour, i saw tons of nice, beautiful girls, many of them are in sororities. I'm just wondering will girls in sororities like to hang out with boys who not in a frat ( it sounds stupid, don't laugh at me :-D)

If you're that interested in girls, maybe you should re-evaluate why you are considering FSU in the first place.

i didnt know anything about FSU girl until my friend told me. At first i choose it mainly because the weather there is suitable for me . i haven't have a chance to talk to them much but my "beloved" brother scared me that beautiful girls in sororities usually go with bossy and to stay away from them if u're not in big frat.... it makes me a little worry, hope he's wrong. so how do u feel about them?

Yeah, I can vouch for that.

Personally, I never saw the appeal of Greek Life. I'd avoid it, especially if you plan on being a computer science major.

tks for that, are u a student at FSU now ? Do u still have fun ? why do you think Greek life is boring ? :-)

Yeah, I still have fun, with friends I made on my own. I feel like Greek Life is basically paying a large sum of money for instant "friends." I think it's much better to develop your own relationships. Computer Science classes can be challenging and you'll want to find people to study with/bounce ideas off of. I'd say befriend anyone you can in your classes. Most likely, they'll be pretty great people to hang out with outside of class, as well.

On the topic of girls ... well, I met my girlfriend in my Object-Oriented Programming class. It worked out quite well. Considering CS is still a somewhat male-dominated major, I can't say that you'll have the same luck, honestly. However, I do believe the male-to-female ratio is getting smaller, if only by a little at a time. Based on my observations (and I could be completely wrong), it does seem like girls (and guys) in Greek Life tend to associate primarily with others in Greek Life.

I really do believe you can find your own fun (and a significant other) without participating in Greek Life.

tks a lot Rob. it's really helpful. now i have reasons why i shouldnt join frats :-) . i'm vietnamese. is it somehow prevents me from making friends ? my brother joined a frat and he had no problem in making friends there. their attitude toward my bro even cooler when they knew he 's a vietnamese. I think it's partly because he paid the money to join them so they be his friends but he still has lots of good friends then and until now. he's defending his frat now. he said i won't get good friends and most girls are unlikely don't want to make friend with an asian boy like me unless i'm in a frat. i'm gonna prove he's wrong but somehow he makes me afraid little bit about that. It would be suck if he's right .

Do what you think is best. If you join a fraternity, you don't have to stay in it.

yeah . haven't had time to talk to the students . so I don't know their attitude toward me. I hope I can get along there
