How is Fordham in terms of merit aid?

I would love some solid schools in NYC/in the area. I'm from Queens and would love to stay here. I have Adelphi on my list as a safety, and I know I will get a lot of merit aid from it (as well as St Johns if I applied to its regular school.. I might apply to its PharmD program so i wont get much merit aid). So, does Fordham give deserving students money?

I have a 35 ACT
97.7 gpa, top 5% of class of 675
680 chem and bio, 720 math 2
Pretty good ECs
Great letters of recommendation

I would think you would get a very nice package. If you were a national merit semi-finalist/finalist you will get full tuition.

Grants and Scholarships -- Fordham University

Here's a basic breakdown of the merit scholarships they give out. They're pretty competitive, but I know a good number of students who are on some sort of merit aid. It looks like you might want to take the SATs, though, if you want to compete for the National Merit and Presidential Scholarships.

You'll definetly get into Fordham. They gave me a good scholarship and your stats are atleast a notch above mine. If you qualify for aid they give out huge grants to deserving students. I know a lot of people who have around $16000 in a Fordham Aid grant on top of federal aid.

@sunshowers ... they don't give out the Presidential scholarships if you took the ACT instead? That's lame lol

It looks like ACT test should count for scholarships, but it never hurts to call. See website Traditional Rose Hill and Lincoln Center Fordham University Aid

I think saw somewhere on their website that you need at least a 32 ACT to be in the running for the Presidential scholarship (as opposed to SAT I: 700 reading, 700 math). Whether or not I'm remembering the number correctly, 35 should get you a pretty good shot.

Do they ever give out need based grants on top of merit based scholarships?

I have a somewhat dumb question - If you receive merit based aid, say it was $8000, is it 8000 every year for 4 years or just 8000? Just wondering in the unlikely event my daughter receives any thing from any college :).

I believe westie, that with a merit scholarship, it's for all 4 years, as long as your child keeps up a certain gpa, such as a 3.0. At least that is how my daughters scholarship works.

Yes, scholarships are renewed each school year given that the student maintains a specified GPA, 3.0 in most cases.

@Wanderer2: Yes, if your family shows need, then I believe need-based grants are combined with merit aid, to form a combined package. Fordham is getting more and more generous each year, as donations are starting to come in. Fordham has raised an astounding $82 million in donations just for scholarships, exceeding its goal of $70 million. If you are a good student, Fordham will court you and try its very best to get you.
