Changing Colleges over Gap Year

Hey all -

So I graduated high school in May and I was accepted to the Colorado School of Mines and enrolled, but I deferred my acceptance to take a gap year (I was planning on it before COVID-19 turned the world upside down). Although I think Mines would be a great school, and is definitely a good choice for me, I've been self-motivated to consider other college choices and see other schools that would be a nice fit for me (Mines allows for enrollment to other institutions over a deferral period). This isn't set in stone for me and I'm considering it (although if I wanted to reapply I would have to start fairly soon obviously), so I was just wondering if anyone else had this experience of consideration and actually ended up deferring enrollment and choosing a different college/university and how that has worked out for them.

Thanks for your help and support!
