Housing wait list

aspect121aspect121 Registered User Posts: 5 New Member
**** is this? i know hundreds of people who applied to many different universities, but GW is the only place where i was wait listed for housing. I am paying full tuition, listen more than 20 preferences, said i am willing to pay extra if needed, but why was i wait listed when bunch of my friends got singles and doubles while having worse gpa, and sat? I am extremely pissed. Does it mean i will probably end up in 6 or 5 people room? if thats the case i will better have a freaking gap year

First, try to relax a bit- who knows what's going on behind the scenes.

Second, have you spoken with housing to see why you're wait-listed? I haven't actually heard of that happening, so who knows what's really going on. Also, housing has absolutely NOTHING to do with GPA, SAT, where you're from, etc. It's based entirely on a lottery system (random) that takes into consideration your housing and roommate preferences.

As far as ending-up in a large room, it's very likely. Thurston houses a large number of freshmen and here's it's break-down:

16% of residents will reside in 2-Person Units
13% of residents will reside in 3-Person Units
55% of residents will reside in 4-Person Units
3% of residents will reside in 5-Person Units
12% of residents will reside in 6-Person Units

Anyway, call housing then post back in here and let us know what's up. Chances are you aren't the only one that this is happening to and others would like to know.

Maybe the reason you got waitlisted is because of all the preferences? It's possible that they can't accommodate everything that you requested regardless of how much money you can throw at them.

They said I was in the unluckiest 5% of incoming class. And all us will be put where there is space, whatever it is a single, a six people room, or a fridge box only a few blocks away from the white house, no matter what our preferences are. It is a horrible disappointment to hear that all your preferences have been thrown out of a window. "great" is the best way to describe how they treat the incoming students.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry about it too much. I don't know how many of the freshman dorms you been in, but they're all pretty awesome. And just because they say you are "unlucky" doesn't mean your dorm assignment will be poor- maybe you get squeezed in to an upperclassmen dorm. Who knows...

Hang in there. There are plenty of other things to get pumped about! Which CI session are you going to?
