Hey guys! i just got accepted into a summer program at Georgetown for high school students (it's the broadcast journalism one) and I was just wondering if anyone else had attended any programs at Georgetown and I wanted to hear any experiences you guys had! any info is appreciated! also, how good do you think this will look on my college application especially if I apply to the specific journalism/communications school?
if it matters, I am currently a junior an my top choice college is USC (southern California)

My D attended the G'town summer program last year. LOVED it. Totally sold her on the school, however, with a 32 ACT, she is accepting the fact that she will probably have to accept at another school. Loved the PoliSci program. Great kids!

I would highly highly reccomend the Georgetown summer program. I totally agree with the post above, it definitely sold me on the school. I did the politics and public affairs one. It was very well-run, stocked with many great lecturers, good balance of free time and class time. The people in it were great, I still talk to many of them. Some of the people from the program even went on to be roommates in college. I also did a summer program the next year at Brown, and I was wayyyy less impressed. I cannot say enough good things about the Georgetown summer program. Although I can't speak directly for the broadcasting one, I'm sure it will be equally well done. :)

I would recommend it as well! It's a great way to meet extraordinary people and get a feel for college life. Also, @jmay721...I attended the same summer program and my ACT is 31, but I was accepted at Georgetown EA. Don't give up hope just because of ACT scores, there's so much more that Georgetown looks at. Good luck to her.

i am a current high school junior and went to georgetown last year and it was one of the best weeks of my summer! i made great friends and got a good hands on experience with journalism. it also gave me a lot of insight about what i want to do as my college major. Have fun!!!

RMCF21 Just curious why you would take the Georgetown course when USC offers summer programs, as well, including journalism. Taking courses at USC not only gives you credit THERE, it shows USC that you are interested in them first, not Georgetown. Take a look at Summer@USC ? USC Summer Programs for high school students.

Wait, tryhonesty, are you me? I also took a Georgetown program (American politics and public affairs) and Brown program last year, and also loved my little one-week course over my longer Brown course. I would HIGHLY recommend the Georgetown ones! In my political science course, the professor who was supposed to be giving a lecture on the legislative branch was unable to attend. The director of the program left the hall and ten minutes later returned with former Nebraskan Senator Chuck Hagel, who proceeded to give an hour-long, impromptu lecture on the same subject. Where else in the world could that happen? It was awesome!!

    thanks for the replies everyone!
@lisapbs i definately looked into every program USC offered and was really, really keen to go there. unfortunately, none of the programs were really worth it or related to journalism. Many of the programs were like medical/science/global classes while Georgetown offered some amazing prgrams that were not just classes, but gave hands on experience. I would have totally gone to a USC program if they had offered ones as good as the Georgetown ones.

Son attended a five week summer session when he was a rising senior. He still stays in touch with the friends he made there. It was a great experience, and helped him realize that in the big wide world there were many many kids as smart or smarter than he. He is now in his first year at Penn.

of note, while they advertise that the courses are 'college credit', other competitive schools may not accept them. Keep the course course syllabus and other evidence that it is a 'rigorous academic experience' if you plan on seeking credit.

Hi, I saw you mention Georgetown one-week summer programs for high schoolers but their site shows 5-week courses, can you tell me where to look?
