Georgetown vs. Cornell and Rice

thestresserthestresser 6 replies10 threads New Member
Hey fam! So I was admitted to Georgetown, Cornell and Rice with a 25k a year scholarship. I am having a really really hard time deciding where to go. I want to go to Georgetown but my parents want me to go to Cornell or Rice. I love gtown and dc. I want to study economics and linguistics and ultimately work overseas for a NGO. Any ideas? Suggestions? Tips? Why do you love gtown? (hopefully I can get ideas to convince my parents because I have tried everything)

    the stresser,

Many years ago, I was in a situation comparable to your parents. My eldest child had been accepted to several excellent schools roughly equivalent in academic excellence and prestige. And I, too, began to second guess her firmly felt and well-reasoned college decision.

My daughter said to me, “Dad I love you, and I am very thankful for everything you have done for me. I understand you have my best interests in mind. That’s why I’m sure you will understand why I wish to make my own decision about what university I wish to attend for the next four years of my life.”

That argument worked for me. Hopefully, it will also prove persuasive for your parents. By the way, my daughter made a great decision. She enjoyed four wonderful years of college, and I never again second guessed the college choices my remaining children made.
