what fields in opto-electronics are most promising or have the most funds

I want to choose a field ,so that i can learn something about it in my spare time ,so i may more competent in the next year's application for the PHD.
one of my teacher tell me to study optical quantum communication .
is it good ,and i find it too hard

    Lawrence-Livermore Labs.

    Brother- in- law tried to explain it to me. but all I got is that, Einsteins E=MC2 or was it Relativity, apparently is not true. Hope you really know your math. He got his Phd from Arizona, but he also had many years of experience in the communications field prior.

    Lawrence Livermore Labs is not a university but national research laboratory for leading edge technology.

    Brother-in-law does work in the field of quantum communications, or something like that.
    Too complicated for me to understand. He is a genius.
