Tell me all I need to know about the GRE

edited June 2010 in GRE Prep
Rising senior here, looking to go to grad school in robotics. Will finish next spring with decent (3.7+) gpa from a small school and some research experience (no publications though).

When should I take the GRE? What's it like? Should I prep? And what about subject tests? How similar is it to the SAT?
