Now that SCEA decisions are out, congrats to those of you who got in by the way, it’s time for us the deferred and the RD applicants to test our luck in the RD decision round.

Feel free to vent, post stats, ask questions, or anything else you can think of! Good luck guys and to quote the Hunger Games , “ May the odds be ever in your favor” , and

Since I like Star Wars let me just throw this in the there as well “May the force be with you”

About 80% of EA applicants are deferred, but it varies by region and AO. Some AOs defer almost everyone, so you can't take a deferral as a positive sign. It's neutral. You are thrown into the RD pool, so the chance of admission is on the order of 2-3%. I suggest applying to several schools that are in your target and likely ranges.

If I didn’t get offered an interview EA, is it possible I could get one in RD? Also, are they just letting me down gently or do I still have a shot, you know? I’m taking it as a rejection but if I get in I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

    From another thread:

I didn't see deferral percentages for this year yet, but in a recent previous class (https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/12/13/early-admissions-2022 ), Harvard deferred 74%, accepted 15%, and rejected only 9%. Being deferred does not mean you are a borderline applicant who has a decent chance of admission in RD. Instead it only suggests you are not in the bottom ~9% of SCEA applicants. The overall RD acceptance rate was only ~3% that year, and deferred applicants typically have a much lower acceptance rate than the overall RD rate. In short, unless something changes between the SCEA and RD round that makes the application far stronger, a deferred applicant should expect to be rejected in RD.

I applied RD about 5 days ago, and just got offered an interview. Has anyone else been offered an interview or had their interview? I'm so nervous!

My S20 recently got an interview request after applying RD a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, on the first date suggested, we were traveling back home, so it didn't work. Supposedly he may hear about a second option.

Hi guys. I know some colleges have extended their RD deadlines to Jan 8, like Pomona and Vassar. But they only emailed about it. It's not written on their websites. Do you guys know if so is the case with Harvard?

Anyone applied for RD is still waiting for interview invitation? My DS submitted his application in the very last day, and hasn't received it yet. I heard someone got the invitation the day right after they their application.

My DD received her interview invitation within 24 hours. However, I believe it has a lot to do with applicant vs. alumni interviewer availability ratio in each region.

DS applied RD in mid-December, but no interview invitation yet. We are in NJ.
