I'm a little angry about the short notice. It's midterm week so this is just another thing to add to the pile.

So do the kids return home on short notice? What’s plan B for them?

They want most people to go home or find housing off campus somewhere. People who can't do that are supposed to chat with the resident dean. It's possible that some students will get to stay on campus if they cannot go home.

Stanford is doing the same thing.
Felt like students should get some sorts of tuition rebate from this “remote” reaching.

we woke up to this news this morning. Understatement to say daughter is not happy. Ticket booked home. Curious what this means for cost. The email of the bill came on time today.

I don't attend Harvard, but I heard about this on the news and was concerned for all of the families. I'm really sorry to hear this!

Do you know if Harvard will refund the second-sem room and board then?

    Prorated

"Room and board charges will be pro-rated to an effective end date of March 15th.

The University is still working on the details for what will happen with any other student charges. Please be patient as this will take some time and the priority is getting students home safely.

So the colleges that can afford to prorate room and board and other charges, are the ones closing so far. In MA so far, private, selective, well-endowed schools I think. Wonder what community colleges are planning.

    Most community colleges aren't residential.

Waking up to that announcement yesterday AM sent my daughter spiraling. Of course, I met her in the vortex because I was spiraling, too with the email :) A slew of other schools are doing the same, asking kids not to return to campus. We are going to need a parent support group around this because we are going to have a lot of unhappy kids wandering through our hallways at home for two months looking for their friends and their beloved college lives ... oi...

@skieurope of course they are commuter, to my knowledge, which, to me, means even more reason to go online. I was referring not to emptying dorms but to moving classes online to avoid gathering on campus in class and out.
