GUEST STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Rohan is a freshman at Dartmouth (and loves it) having gotten in ED for the Class of 2023. He's here to debunk myths regarding admissions and student life at his school. ASK HIM ANYTHING!
Make sure to check out our May Checklists for HS Juniors and HS Seniors. Consult these quick resources to get you started on the process this month.
As we work to adjust to the current reality, make sure to check out these dedicated COVID-19 resources: our directory of virtual campus tours, our directory of extended deadlines, as well as the list of schools going test optional this fall.

Chance me?

Like every single post on this forum but;

GPA: 3.83
Ranking: 6 out of 456 (Top 1%)
SAT: 1400 (will probably retake)

School Year Extracurriculars:
-Drama Club - Social Chair and Troupe Leader
(the drama club at my school is kind of intense, rehearsals every day for five hours that sort of thing. Heavy dedication required)
-NHS -Member
-Speech and Debate - Member
-Work (Sprouts, Target, Etc?)
-Personal Research and Writing Projects

-2019 Cambridge Research Project (Fall of Rome)
-2020 Cambridge Research Project (Elizabethan Rivalry)

(i call these projects but it is a competition at Cambridge Uni lol. I didn't win but enjoyed doing it and plan on doing it again this year)

AP World History - 4
AP US History
AP Comp and Lit
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus BC

Honors Courses:
English I, II, III
Algebra II
College Algebra
Pre Calculus
Econ/Gov H

(these constitute every honor and AP class offered at my school, for context)

Other Classes:
Theatre I
Theatre Showcase x3 (the closest thing to Honors Theatre)
Beg Dance x2

I am also bilingual (Spanish) and from a low-income household/neighborhood. Immigrant family, a single mom.

I know people on this forum can only tell so much from this information, and can hardly speak to actual admission counselors, especially with a holistic process, but any feedback helps and any criticism as long as constructive is welcome.
Thanks xx.

    "bilingual (Spanish)"

    Are you Hispanic?

If so your chances would be probably slightly higher than the overall acceptance rate at Harvard. If not then my guess is that you have some chance but your chances would be lower than the overall acceptance rate.

Your SAT would hurt you in most years. This year it is harder to say since the coronavirus has made it impossible to retake it, at least for now. Hopefully things will open up again before applications are due.

I am assuming that you were a junior this past year and will be a high school senior in the fall.

Apply, but don't get fixed on it. Make sure there are other schools to love.

One thought: perhaps you could submit an arts supplement with a video of your theater, a theater resume and letters of recommendation from directors. It would have to be justified by talent but it is worth considering.

Congratulations on all the things you do and enjoy high school!
