Hi, I am wondering what my chances for Harvard are

My stats are:

GPA: 3.5
Rank: Top 10 %, not certain on my exact number.
SAT: 2200, CR: 740, M: 700, W: 760
ACT: 31, R: 33, E: 33, M: 29, S: 27, W: 10
SAT II: US History 740, Molecular Bio: 670, Math I: 570. I am taking Global History and Math this October.
AP's:
US History: 5
English Language and Comp: 3
Bio: 3
Next Year:
Macroeconomics
Environmental Science
US Gov't and Politics
Calculus AB
English Language and Literature

EC's

Varsity Golf - 5 years, captain senior year. 4 straight league championships, 2 undefeated seasons.
Orchestra - 9 years, principal bassist for 8 years
Chamber Orchestra - 8 years (4-8, 10-12, my 9th grade year it wasn't offered) - principal bassist.
Jazz Band - 7 years - principal electric bassist
Freshman Hockey - 1 year
Newspaper - Political Correspondant - 1 year
Debate team - 1 year while it was offered
Academic Team - 1 year
Intern at Congressman Steve Israel's office - 4 years
Legislative Research at Congressman Steve Israel's office - Senior Research project on the Genocide in Darfur
Campaign work, voter Iding, petition work - Town of Babylon Democratic Party

Work experience:

Colonial Spring Golf Club - Bag Attendant - 3 years

I am going to be either a American Government, Political Science, Economics or International Affairs major so hopefully my experience with politics will help with my admission.

Thank you

DJ Ryan

    Hey,

Unfortunately DJ your academic and extracurricular achievements don't seem to stand out that well among Harvard applicants. Consequently, I'd have to say your chances of getting in are slim to none. However, you do seem to excel at bass. I'm a member of the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra and we are badly in need of bassists. Our conductor may ask the admissions board to let in a few extra bass players, as he did last year. While I can't guarantee that this will help you, it could potentially give you a better chance.

the 3.5 GPA will probably hurt you...but your SAT I scores are good. SAT II scores...well, study for the two new ones you're taking!

I wouldn't say your ECs are bad, don't worry about them. What's more important is your essays. Really stand out from the crowd through that.

When I read bassist my eyes lit up lol. I myself play the viola. It's true that they do need more of us so it can definitely be a plus.

I'd say chances are slim. but i don't think there's no hope!

Do you think that you have a chance at being recruited to play golf? I know that Harvard doesn't "recruit", but if the coach pulls some strings it coud really help you. But, then again, I don't even know if Harvardhas a golf team, or if it is competitive. Based on academics though, you will be lucky to get to committee.
