***Harvey Mudd Class of 2021 ED1 Applicant Thread***

tinyhandstinyhands Registered User Posts: 8 New Member
We still have almost a week until ED1 is due, but I turned in my application a few days ago and decided I might as well start a thread for this. Who all is applying and where else are you applying to? Also purely out of curiosity, what are you thinking of/planning on majoring in if you get in at Mudd?

Personally I'm also applying to Rose-Hulman, WPI, RPI, and RIT. (Although I'll only be sending in those applications if I /don't/ get in to Mudd) And if I do get in, I'm planning on majoring in Engineering or Physics.

Hey, I applied ED1! I'm also planning on majoring in Engineering or physics, but it's kind of all up in the air because I don't know exactly what I would like to do other than the fact that I know I want to do a STEM related field...
Other places I've applied to: Rose Hulman, RPI, Colorado School of Mines (I got accepted a couple weeks ago!), USC, Rice, Georgia Tech, Wash U.
But of course, Mudd is really where I want to be, but seriously doubting my ability to get in because of Mudd's minuscule class size (which is ironically why I like the place). anyways, we hear back in less than a month and best of luck!

Applied ED1. I loved the school when I visited but I don't expect to get in. My GPA is a little below HMC's average and my test scores are slightly above the average. Only nine more days till we find out so we'll see!

I'm also applying to Case Western (second choice), Wake Forest, G Tech, Rice, Pomona, Brandeis, Carleton, and UMass Amherst.

If I get in I plan to major in computer science.

@burgerlover and @AngrySoccerMom good luck to both of you!! We should be getting our responses pretty soon, I know that last year the responses came out a couple days early.

And SoccerMom, I'm almost the opposite of you because I have a pretty high GPA but my test scores are a little low. I'm hoping I still have a good chance though based on my essays, teacher recs, and hopefully my interview will give me an extra boost. (Also, I don't know if they consider it but I have legacy so maybe that'll do something for me??) I'm stressed about the responses but staying positive!!

I could see how legacy could help. They want to make sure there is a culture fit, and you probably understand it better than some applicants. :) Good luck to all of you!

@intparent Yeah legacy is probably mostly helpful because I made a point that my mom and I are basically the same person personality-wise and she loved HMC a lot, so I'm hoping that gives me a boost.

Does anyone know how Mudd notifies ED applicants about their decisions? Their website says "Decisions mailed to Early Decision applicants." on December 15th, but is it really mailed through snail mail?

@waterpololover - They send out and email notifying you what time the decision will be on the portal so you can check at that time. (At least this is how they did it a couple years ago for ED2 which actually came a week before the expected decision date). I think they also posted the info on their admissions FB page.

On Harvey Mudd admission page, it says:
    Welcome, Class of 2021!
Message From the Vice President - Thyra Briggs

But the links are for 2020 class, so I am not sure if the acceptances are mailed already. Seven of my S's friends heard -- 3 accepted in Stanford and 2 in U Penn and 2 Rejected from their ED school. I am hoping we have a good news (then again -- who doesn't want a good news).

@vamath -I suspect they are just getting the site ready for when decisions come out.

@ClaremontMom do you know where the decision would be on the portal? Or will it be obvious once decisions come out?
  • ClaremontMomClaremontMom Registered User Posts: 2,405 Senior Member
@waterpololover -IIRC there a new link appeared on the portal that announced there was a decision and clicking it led to the decision.
