So I feel like we need a place to discuss our favorite books. What kinds of books do ya'll like? I love Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, TFIOS, Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, and many more. I'm currently reading The Spectacular Now and I love it. I really want to read The Great Gatsby and Pride and Prejudice. What about you guys?

I've read most of the books you've mentioned by name, except for Spectacular Now.

For some reason I tend to like books by British authors...

I don't like Twilight. Yes, I have read it, unlike some people I know who "hate" Harry Potter but have never read/watched it...

Classics I like: Tale of Two Cities, Jane Eyre, Importance of Being Earnest, and a few others

I'm kind of uncultured. A lot of the stuff I read isn't really in book form.

Right now I like hint fiction, which is basically a story in 25 words or fewer. (I think everyone has heard of "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." Stuff like that. My attention span is really lim...what was I saying again?) I also like found poetry and horror short stories.

My favorite books are The Giver (a children's book, but whatever) and Life of Pi. I read The Picture of Dorian Gray for school and liked it a lot.

I hate Twilight with a burning passion. And I've read all of the books so that people can't say I can't judge them. I was bored out of my mind.

The Spectacular Now is a great book. I definitely recommend it.

I want to read a lot of classics! My friend recommended Dorian Gray.

Any Percy Jackson fans out there? In love those books.

Yeah, I agree, the Twilight books were boring.

Percy Jackson - are you reading the other series that's not really about Percy? I've gotten behind on that :/

You mean the Kane Chronicles? I didn't like those that much. I liked the Greek and Roman ones a lot better.
  • quidditchcatquidditchcat Registered User Posts: 2,894 Senior Member
    Yeah...
I'm also behind on the Roman ones.
    So behind on my reading.

reading Hamlet in English class though. That's like the only book I've read in the past week :/

Just read As I Lay Dying - the best book ever. So horrid sometimes (in terms of plot events) but OMG FAULKNER IS A GENIUS!

I sort of like all books. Except Victorian 'classics' which I hate with a passion, almost without exception.

Has anyone read anything by Sebastian Faulks or Ben Elton? They're my two favourite authors and their historical fiction is absolutely incredible.

We have different teams in our book club. Like classics, adventure, fantasy etc and then a book we all read together each month. I'm the president of the classics so we are reading A Separate piece, one of my favorites.

Can we actually turn this into a book club with a new book/series/author every month? We don't have anything like that at school and I really need an incentive to spend more time reading.

That's a great idea! However I probably won't be able to be consistent with it because of homework and all that. I don't even know how I'm able to read The Spectacular Now right now. But I will try!

What should the book be for November?
