Economics Extracurriculars

Hello CC,
This is my first post here. I’m a rising sophomore interested in economics, but I’ve had a slow start in extracurriculars. I just do debate, but I plan on doing newspaper as well next year. What would be a good way to kickstart my extracurriculars (especially in economics) to be considered for some of the more selective summer programs/research at a community college?

Community colleges in general are not considered selective so your wording might be throwing people off. Usually their summer programs are offered to the first x students who sign up type programs. I personally don't know of any economics activities but you can look into Junior Achievement to see if anything would be helpful in your area.

Having a job would be a good EC and is related to economics. Getting involved as a volunteer in a political campaign could be related to economics, as candidates usually have plans for spending or taxation that you would then want to understand.

Get a job! Anything and everything you do will be relevant regardless of how mundane it seems. And the plus is that you will have something to talk about in college apps and internship interviews. (As well as a few $ in your pocket!)

You don't have to have an EC related to your major.
I agree, get a job, do debate, MUN, etc
