Will being in a magnet program unrelated to what I want to major in hurt my college applications?
Long story short, my dream since 3rd grade was to become an architect, and I enrolled in a magnet program within my district that allowed me to take construction and architecture classes. Then, I joined debate last (sophomore) year, and realized I loved it and was more passionate about it than architecture. Now I know that I would rather go into law/government, but I have to stay at my magnet school, where I have an architecture class that takes up two of my class periods. Will this hurt my college application(s)? I'm trying to make up for it by involving myself with extracurriculars related to politics and taking more AP classes, but I can't shake the feeling that architecture just looks like a waste of time to an admissions officer. There's no way for me to drop the class, so how can I make the best of it?3 replies
