I posted this on the College forum, but maybe someone here has some ideas too.

I'm sorry to post under a different name, but I really need help, guys.

My friend and I planned a trip for a few day before school starts, and now we have a big problem.

Let me give you some info about her. She is a very good kid. Doesn't get into trouble, doesn't even drink but her parents are super over-protective, and there is no way they would want her to take the trip even though all we are doing is going to visit New York for a couple days and shop.

She was going to come to school early and just go, but now that there is a huge storm coming in, and her parents won't drive her or let her drive. They also won't let her take a bus to school (yeah, I don't know why either) unless she can come up with a really good reason why she needs to be on campus earlier. Classes don't start for about five days.

Please, does ANYONE have ANY suggestion why a college student might HAVE TO be on campus early. Keep in mind, they know all her activities and commitments, so it has to be pretty creative.

I'm sorry for the post, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I know this is all screwed up, but right now, we just want to be able to take the trip and not deal with it.

Uh... she is in college? Therefore an adult? Why would she NEED her parents permission?

Parents aren't stupid, they know that if you want to be somewhere and they say "no" and you come up with a reason why you all of a sudden NEED TO BE THERE, they'll connect the dots.

Sorry to be blunt, but it's the truth.

Seriously, she's an adult. She doesn't need mom and dad's permission to take a bus to college.

The only thing I can think of is that you go pick her up.

Yes, I understand they probably pay her tuition and such, but sometimes parents just need to let go.

I don't mean to be mean, truly, but I just got off of another topic similar to this and it makes me frustrated that parents don't let their kids grow up. Sheesh, I'm 16 and my parents take off for weeks at a time leaving me with money and a car and everything seems to work out fine. Sorry rant over. >.<

Does she really need her parent's permission? Anyway, I have to say that her parents will realize what she's trying to do. If you really want to try, I guess say that she has a club activity or something? Maybe she needs to meet with a counselor about her classes or something? I know it's pretty stupid, but I can't think of anything else. Good luck!
